IN FLAMES
Officially recognized by the Ministry of Ecological Transition as a "virtuous example of biodiversity conservation," the Alta Murgia National Park is a significant oasis of ecological tourism in Italy. However, the succession of devastating fires, persistent pollution, and the ever-changing climatic scenario pose a challenging test for the environment and its delicate ecosystem. This precious area is subject to continuous meticulous monitoring and in-depth studies by experienced guides, passionate biologists, and vigorous activists. The danger of wildfires is becoming an increasingly recurring threat in Southern Italy. Every summer, we witness the significant loss of green areas.
"In Flames," through image manipulation, portrays the region of the Alta Murgia Park encompassing Altamura, Pulicchio di Gravina di Puglia, and Spinazzola. The photographs showcase the natural beauty of the area while also tinged with red and orange hues to raise awareness among viewers.
The installation was created together with the participants of the workshop held on May 30th in Altamura. The branches and stones collected become part of the exhibition as a material extension of the works, turning the gallery into a space for sharing and reflecting on the concept of nature.
